Which Water to Choose?
Demineralized water:
Deionized water, the kind sometimes used for irons and unscented, is a popular option for watering carnivorous plants. It is free of minerals that could build up in the substrate and harm your plants.
Rainwater:
Rainwater is a free and natural option. It is generally free of unwanted minerals and is favored by many carnivorous plants. However, it is important to collect rainwater in a clean container to prevent bacteria from growing and forming algae.
Osmosis water:
Reverse osmosis water, available at garden centers or produced by a reverse osmosis system, is a higher quality option. Prices vary depending on the reverse osmosis system. It is purified to remove most impurities, minerals and contaminants, providing high quality water for your carnivorous plants.
Zerowater filtered water:
Zerowater filtered water is another great option. However, it is essential to check the quality of this water using a TDS (electrical conductivity) tester to ensure it is suitable for your plants' needs. I recommend water with a measurement between 0 and 55 ppm.
Choosing the right water for your carnivorous plants, including Drosera, Dionaea muscipula, and Sarracenia, is a crucial factor in their health. Each option has its advantages, so choose the one that best suits your situation. Be sure to maintain the quality of the water you use and regularly monitor the health of your plants to ensure they thrive and last a long time.
