How to take care of your carnivorous plant

  • In winter, keep the substrate moist. Withstands short frosts down to -5°C as long as temperatures rise above freezing during the day.
  • In summer, immerse the pot in 3 cm of water or more, depending on the height of the pot. This plant greatly appreciates full sun and can withstand high temperatures of up to over 32°C.
When well acclimated to its environment, it can also withstand high temperatures up to 40°C.
  • Water only with rainwater, reverse osmosis water, water
demineralized (fragrance-free) or Zerowater (check quality

Description de la plante carnivore

A carnivorous plant with fearsome jaw-like traps. Dionaea muscipula 'AF Harlequin' is a cultivar of Venus flytrap that has very distinct characteristics, larger traps with a beautiful bright red color on the inside that become even darker with strong exposure to sunlight and pale green on the outside of the traps, as well as fine teeth.

Care instructions:

Temperature: Dionaea muscipula can withstand temperatures exceeding 40°C in summer and resist frosts down to -10°C in winter.
Water: For watering, I recommend that you opt for a capillary method, ensuring that you constantly maintain a water level of at least 3 cm, using rainwater, demineralized or osmosis.
Light: Full sun or near a sunny window to ensure optimal growth. If natural light is insufficient, consider using suitable artificial lighting, including LEDs.
Dormancy: Requires a dormant period from September until late February early March depending on the region. Leaf growth will be slowed, most leaves will turn black and die back to smaller leaves during this period. Leave them outside in full sun, always in a soaked substrate. You can learn more about care here.
Substrate: Choose a substrate with blond sphagnum peat moss mixed with perlite. (I recommend a mixture of 50% peat and 50% perlite.) You can also find a special substrate designed for carnivorous plants in our online shop here.
